Waxing Hair Removal

Males and females benefit from depilation: the removal of unwanted or excessive body hair. Waxing, a temporary and economic method, can remove large areas of hair relatively quickly, and is ideal for legs, male chests or backs and arms. It can also be used in smaller areas, which are also very suitable for permanent hair removal by electrolysis or Epi-laser, e.g. underarms, eyebrows, facial hair, ‘bikini’ line and patches of hair on the back or shoulders. Waxing depilation works by applying a thin layer of warm wax onto the hair, then a strip of paper or fabric is pressed down on to the wax. The strip is then quickly removed, and this takes both wax and hair with it, leaving the treated area smooth and hair-free. It is much more effective than the cold wax preparations available from shops. The hairs should be at least 1/4 inch (7mm) long, otherwise there is insufficient for the wax to grip. The removed hairs re-grow and need removing again in about 4 to 6 weeks. Hairs not long enough at the first treatment will continue to grow and will be removed on the next waxing. Regrowth is finer and smoother than regrowth after shaving. Possible side-effects of any type of depilation are temporary redness or swelling in the underlying tissues. Extremely rarely, sensitive skin may suffer small burns, scarring or local alteration of pigmentation. Regions with pimples, warts, moles, scars, eczema, skin diseases or actual genital regions are usually unsuitable for depilation, but isolated moles etc can be protected by a film of Vaseline. Qualified assessment is important for safe treatment.

The PhD system of waxing signifies ‘Professional, Hygienic and Disposable’, with a sterile, single-use applicator. The wax is in a sealed tube, which is opened for the client and is connected with the sterile applicator once it has been removed from its protective plastic bag. It is impossible for the wax which has been pushed from the tube to return, therefore, it is impossible for skin cells, blood or hairs to get inside the tube from where they would be passed onto another client. This method of wax application is comfortable, effective and gives the client the security of protected health. Also, most clients comment that it is more comfortable than other methods of application.
